Ghahestan was considered as one of the most important states of Iran in the first centuries AH; its name was fused with the name of Khurasan. Ghahestan, because of its strategic situation, geographical context, farness from the system of Caliphate and the presence of different political, ethnical and religious groups, had been paid attention to since the ancient. People of Ghahestan as other regions, spent a large part of their lives in social groups and layers and they were in relation with other people of their flocks as members of family or neighbor or particular social, economic, religious and ethnical groups. In fact, the history of the lives of people of Ghahestan means the account of social, economic and intellectual lives of the people of this region, which unfortunately has not been investigated with scientific and research methods. Historians and scholars have not taken a significant step on the path of investigating the lives of the majority of its people and most of these historians have submitted their capabilities to powers and have not paid attention to the features of the lives of most of the region’s people who consist the effective and active class of the society. What distinguishes Ghahestan from other regions is the presence of different groups which knowledge of this issue clarifies the social state of this region to some extent.In the present study, we are to draw a general overview of the social context and different features and elements of this region in the first five centuries AH. In fact, the research is an answer to this question that how was the social context in Ghahestan, since the arrival of Islam to the end of the 5th century AH, and what factors influenced this context? The present study is a descriptive-analytical one and was conducted based on library resources.
