A case report of orbital hydatid cyst in Shahrekord

Background And Aims
Hydatid cyst disease is one of the most important zoonosis which is due to inhabitance of Echinocucus granolosus larva. The disease is accompanied with a wide range of clinical symptoms that involve individual organs such as liver, brain, spleen, and other parts of body in cystic form. In few cases, eye is involved which named Orbital hydatid disease. Case report: The present case is a 11-year-old boy who referred to a clinic with painless and unpalpated proptosis. CT scan showed a retro- bulbar cyst. The patient was hospitalized and the cyst was removed by surgery. Pathologic evaluation confirmed orbital hydatid cyst. The result of therapy was satisfying and clinical signs were disappeared after management.
Conclusion
Due to existence of hydatid cyst in Chaharmahal & Bakhtaran province, physicians should include orbital hydatid cyst in the differential diagnosis of unilateral proptosis.
