Assessing the General Health, Fitness, and Anthropometric Features of Male Police Students
Studying about the problems regarding the mental, physical and health conditions of the military is very important. Physical activity during the military period, on the one hand, supplies a suitable level of fitness and health, and leads to a decline in physical and mental injuries, on the other. The aim of this study was to assess the general health, fitness and some anthropometric features among the students of the police university. The statistical sample consisted of students of Tehran Police University. In this study, General Health Questionnaire (GHQ -) was applied for measuring the general health, as well as the physical fitness parameters of the participants. The results showed that young boys had suitable fitness and body composition; however, they had depression and social dysfunction, which could be due to their separation from families, military training’s specific environmental conditions, stress associated with the university life, changes in life style, and the sleep-wake schedule. We suggest that recreational programs including going camping, pilgrimage and tourism can improve the emotional state of students.
