Comparison of the effect of using amiodarone and lidocaine in the prevention of the mortality of patients undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation
In the cardiopulmonury resuscitation (CPR) the main objective is the return of spontaneous circulation and the prevention of brain complications. in order to increase the chance of one''s survivals،various drugs،including amiodarone are used. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using amiodarone and lidocaine in the prevention of the mortality of patients undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
In this study which was of interventional type، those patients undergoing cardioprlmonary resuscitation were chosen that had necessary criteria for being included in the study and had pulseless VF/VT rhythm. In this way a sample of 100 patients were chosen and these were divided in to two ecual groups of 50 patients. For one group amiodarone and for the other group lidocaine were used and the rate of survival was meatured for the two grouyps.
In this study، amiodarone was more effective than lidocaine in the survival of the patients،but the difference was of no statistical siyificance (p=0/137). In those patients which had an underlying cardiopulmonary disease، amiodarone was more effective in saving patients life than lidocaine، and this was statistically significant (p=%32).
We conclude from our study that in those patients which have an underlying cardiopulmonary disease and confront cardiac arrest with VT/VF rhythm، amiodarone is affective in reducing the chance of mortality in these patients.
