Evaluation of Antibacterial Efficiency of Hygienic Hand Rub " Dermosept"

Considering the importance of hand hygiene in controlling of infections, use of alcohol based hand rubs is strongly recommended because of being fast and not harmful for the skin despite high levels of disinfection's activity. The purpose of this study was the evaluation of a hygienic hand rub Dermosept in compareing with the reference hand rub. According to the national standard of Iran (8512), 12 volunteers were chosen. Their hands were contaminated with the nonpathogen bacteria E. coli and their fingertips were placed in TSB medium before and after use Dermosept and reference hands rub. Then the number of remaining microorganisms on their hands was measured. Based on Wilcoxon test, Dermosept’s performance was determined via comparison of decrease coefficient of Dermosept with the reference hand rub. Based on Wilcoxon test, the ensembles of the decrease coefficient logarithm of the reference and Dermosept were 3.5111 and 3.7903, respectively, and at the difference between the decrease coefficient logarithm of Dermosept and reference hand rub, total rating of negative equaled 55 and positive was 23, also p-value = 0.1167 was calculated. With regard to the total sum of negative ratings which was higher than positive ratings, it seemed that efficiency of Dermosept was better, but according to the p-value (0.1167) at a meaningful level of 0.05, there weren’t significant differences between the coefficient reduction of Dermosept and reference, thus its performance was similar to propanol. Finally, use of Dermosept solution was recommended for hand hygiene due to simple and fast application, no need for water and acceptable antibacterial activity.
