Relation between vitamin D deficiency and metabolic disturbance in PCOS
It is estimated that poly cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) affects about 10% of women in reproductive ages and has many morbidities. While vitamin D deficiency is a common problem in all countries, PCOS and vitamin D deficiency both have association with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistances. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of vitamin D deficiency in the exacerbation of metabolic disturbances in PCOS.
In this study 50 patients with PCOS were evaluated. In total patients laboratory tests for FBS, Insulin, lipid profile, glucose tolerance test,25 (OH) D were carried out. The insulin resistance was calculated with HOMA-IR formula. Vitamin D levels compared in patients and the relation between vitamin D deficiency and metabolic parameters were evaluated.
With cut off point of vitamin D deficiency
It seemed that vitamin D level did not have independent effect on metabolic disturbances in PCOS patients and the most effective factor in induction of the metabolic diseases was the effect of weight in these patients.
