Qualitative study of relation between teens cultural consumption and process of identity creation

Consumption has special importance in new identity creation. Different patterns of consumption can be considered as signs of different identities which people create by their daily choices. From different consumption patterns, it seems cultural consumption has a specific role in the process of people identification especially for teens. The paper studies correlation of cultural consumption of teens and process of identity creation. The study looks for the role of cultural consumption in how teens define themselves. Accordingly, from different consumption theories, Bodriar consumption theory was used. Research method is qualitative research in this study and deep and unstructured interview technique is used. For interview analysis, content analysis method is used. The result shows that cultural consumption of teens which includes book, movie, music and internet, has a direct role on their (teens) definition of themselves. Teens define who they are based on cultural consumption. Accordingly, the paper believes in different criteria of cultural consumption,internet, music and movie, in order, had the most important role on teens identity creation. Because studied teens spend most of their time on internet specially on social networks or they listen to music during their daily routines simultaneously and they usually spend a specific time watching movie.
