Representation of landscape and skeletal landscape of Tehran in contemporary cinema of Iran

Films are among the social productions and it is possible to reach new elements of social and cultural life in every society by studying them. The main purpose of this article, according to this issue that city is the mainstream of the expressions of cultural and social life in modern age, is to recognize how to represent the urban elements in contemporary films related to four Iranian author directors by focusing on the state and perspectives of metropolitan Tehran as a city which is experiencing a kind of civil life in its heart. For this purpose, we have discussed in this article about the semiotics of urban scenes in four films “Santouri” by “DariushMehrjuie”, “Beneath the city” by “RakhshanBaniEtemad”, “The beautiful city” by “AsgharFarhadi” and “A home on the water” by “Bahman Farman Ara” influenced by John Fiske and by using the concepts of representation of Michel Foucault and Stuart Hall and Kevin Lynch urban landscape; we jumped to conclusion that directors in representing urban elements show the five elements of the face of the city according to Lynch views that surely are the way, the edge, the signs, the nodes and the neighborhood and this is justified because the portrait of the city is a carved image in the minds of users of urban space which creates collective memory.
