The evaluation of relationship between mental health and spiritual health of students at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, 2013

The Importance of Health in Islam has been mentioned on several occasions. In the views of the World Health Organization, mental health and spiritual health are included in the category of health definition. This study investigated the relationship between mental health and spiritual health as two other major healths among college students in Tehran University of Medical Sciences. This study was descriptive - analytical study that was conducted cross-sectional in 2013. The data gathering tool was a questionnaire consisted of three parts: demographic information, 20-item spiritual health questionnaire of Pullotzin and Ellison and a test of mental health and (28-GHQ), respectively. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 18 software and Pearson correlation test, t-test and ANOVA. The mean component of spiritual health was 6.70 ± 75.33. Mental Health 52.4 percent was in a state of disorder. According to T test, there was a significant relationship between spiritual health components and students` gender. ANOVA also showed a significant relationship between the level of students and spiritual health and revealed two following criteria, existential health and religious. The results showed that students in the two components of spiritual health and mental condition were not proper, although the GHQ does not prove definite mental or physical problems but identifies at-risk students.
