Genetic counseling relying on Islamic consultation principles
Message:
Abstract:
Genetic counseling is one of the important issues in medical genetics and genetic ethics. It is an essential part of genetic tests and since it can prevent the incidence of congenital anomalies by determining the risk of occurrence or repeating a hereditary disease, it is usually recommended to be performed before and after a genetic test. Consultation is also important in Islamic teachings and a lot of verses and traditions are recommended to do this. Obviously, there is no recommendation about genetic counseling in Islamic texts but it can be done better by applying consultation principles, conditions and responsibilities of consultant and client duties in Islam. This article studies verses and narrations which are invoked in genetic counseling and mentions examples of how the usage of Islamic teachings deals in this important topic. Improving genetic services can develop better this new science in our country and decrease the burden of hereditaryand genetic diseases.
