Workload assessment a way to control human error in workplace

Workload is one of the main factors result in accidents. One of the important sciences that can help managers to promote workers’ health and safety is ergonomics, especially cognitive ergonomics. From this science’s point of view mismatch between workload and human’s capability is the main factor of injuries. This article presents result of workload and its dimensions among administrative staffs of a medical sciences university in Iran, in 2014. This cross sectional study conducted by survey all the administrative staffs (n=223). Workload is survived by NASA-TLX questionnaire and demographic factors gathered using a questionnaire developed by research team. Data has been analyzed by t–test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation using SPSS V20. Data analysis results declare workload with 76.15 as average scale. Its reliability was analyzed by cronbach's alpha and was 0.83. In addition, physical workload has statistical significant difference among educational groups (p<0.05). Totally, workload was in high level. Administrative controls and actions should be used to improve conditions and also workload dimensions specially two dimensions have highest portions (Performance and Effort) needed to be modified to improve safety.
