Improvement of Enthalpy-Porosity Technique for Water Solidification Modeling and Implementation for Freezing in Natural Convection Cavity

Abstract:
The formation of Ice on a cold surface and its shape، play an important role in some of the various problems. The position of solid surface of ice accretion، its growth shape and the effect of liquid phase on it، are important parameters in the various applications. Difficulty of analytic techniques and expensive of experimental methods encourage the numerical modeling procedures in the investigation of this transient evidence. The enthalpy-porosity technique has been used for material with similar properties in solid and liquid phase usually. This method is improved، introducing functional fluid properties، for a substance with a variable property in this research. This developed model is utilized to modeling of the water freezing in a cavity while it is in the condition of natural convection. Formation of two vortexes and the solid surface perpendicularity on lower wall as observed in experimental tests، is verified the quantity evaluation. Moreover the results show the more accurate data in improved model in compare with experimental data. Average data in shape growth results in 4% improvement in compare with some of utilized recent models.
