Economic Aspects of Ageing

Population aging is taking place in developed countries and causes some anxiety in recent decade. United Nations’ most recent report shows that the aging in developing countries are growing more rapidly than other nations and they will confront with the obstacles of this phenomenon in a few decades. Iran has third highest rate of population aging in the world that increases the importance of this issue for policymakers. Thus, it is needed to analyse the sectors that may affected by population ageing. Despite of its importance, there is not a comprehensive study that analyses the economic aspects of aging. This study conducted to specify the economic aspects of the Iran’s aging population. To this end, ageing effects has been investigated in the most important economic sectors and the preventive strategies outlined for policymakers. It is hoped that this study will be a first step toward scientific look at the ageing phenomenon and will stimulate further investigation.
