Communication and Criminology Theories: Decriminalization or Criminalization

The issue of crime and their instances are one of the most important social phenomena that has effected in all crises of the world. In fact, the crime is now as the source of all the chaos and crises. There is no doubt that in the age of technology and communication, the police in any society is not able to control and prevent crime unless the participation of people to seek help and public participation in society would not fulfill except through awareness through the media, particularly television, which are publicly available in society.The important view about the subject of the foregoing, is that the socio images usually affected on criminal justice authorities (such as police, correctional officers, prosecutors, and judges) and make couple with them. This socio images usually defined explained and praised by the most viewed media through the representation of crime scene. This paper aims to identify and evaluate the communication and criminology theories about the use of mass media, especially television and its role in creating or decriminalize the audience and offer necessary solutions in decriminalization. The research method is applied in goal, attributive and qualitative in research method. Results show that studies on the relationship between media violence and social aggression were focused on two hypotheses, competing and stimulation of emotional discharge at first, but then the researchers believe that people tends to offense crime by personal factors (physical or mental), risk factors (inherited effects), predisposing factors (alcoholism), causing and practical factors (the environment), or other factors that have a decisive role in the matter. The issue that one factor has fully involved in crime is rare, but crime has to be occurred in result of accumulation of individual and collective factors.
