Murteza Mutahhari and his Attempts to Wards Social Issues in Reviving Religious Thought

Reconstruction and revival of religious thought is one of subjects considered by religious revivers since long ago. Religious revival is a necessary affair, because it seeks to protect religion in religious societies. The revivers are seeking to obviate challenges and obstacles hindering the growth and development of religion. They are responsible to protect and reconstruct religious thought in those periods when it is subject to impairments and deviations. Religious revival means removing the dust of superstitions and heretical innovations off the religion's face and paying attention to the neglected and forsaken angles of religious teachings. As many Muslim researchers and authorities hold, master Mutahhari was one of the revivers and reformers of religious thought in the present era. In his view, the lag and decline of the Muslim's societies is the most serious contemporary issue of Muslims and answering it is the most urgent need. The master held that the most important element in reforming religious thought is clarification and pathology of religious conceptions which were penetrating people's minds in an altered form. In the position of a philosopher-theologian, he did not ignore the social issues in the sphere of reviving religious thought. Therefore, his social approach is quite obvious in his works. Paying attention to the role of legal reasoning and emphasizing its dynamism, combating against eclecticism and petrification, and pathology of religious conceptions are among the most important dimensions of Master Mutahhari's reviving attempts.
