Investigate of multimedia counseling's Efficacy in Awareness of Parents Who Have a Child with Borderline Stuttering

Aim
During normal development of speech, children sometimes suffer from normal non-fluency or some extent of stutter. Since parents don’t have any information about sufficient relation patterns, therapists try to educate these patterns to parents. But often complete recovery is not achieved. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of training method of sufficient interaction patterns.
Methods
This study is an applicable case-control study which has been done in private speech therapy clinics of Mashhad and Neyshabour. The study has been done on 8 men and 10 woman who have a child with borderline stuttering. To teach the skills, the experiment group has been taught by multimedia training and face to face counseling has been used for the control group. Data analyzing of this study has been done by independent T-test and paired T-test in SPSS software.
Results
The study results show that both multimedia and face to face training make significant improvement in parents’ knowledge about sufficient interaction patterns (P-value≤0.05). To compare the control and experiment groups ‘results, statistical examinations didn’t show significant difference between them (P-value≥0.05) while the mean of knowledge improvement in experiment group (m=8.80) was higher than control one (m=5.88).
Conclusion
Although the face to face training has enough effectiveness on parents’ knowledge in the period of two weeks, it is more likely to observe better results of the multimedia training if the treatment program of borderline stuttering children is planned for a longer time interval.
