SPIRITUAL PREDICTORS OF MENTAL HEALTH IN NURSES: THE MEANING IN LIFE, RELIGIOUS WELL-BEING AND EXISTENTIAL WELL-BEING

Iinvestigating the mental health determinants in hospital staffs specially nurses is very essential because of stressful conditions that they tolerate. So, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among the meaning in life, religious well-being, existential well-being, and mental health in the nurses. In this cross-sectional study, 102 nurses from Talesh city were selected by available sampling method, and they were asked to answer Meaning in Life, Spiritual well-being and General Health Questionnaires. The data were analyzed by multivariate regression and standard multiple regression. The results showed that the relationship of religious well-being with meaning in life is positive and significant, but its relationship with anxiety, depression and social withdrawal is negatively significant. Moreover, the relationship of existential well-being with meaning in life is positive and significant. Its relationship with somatization, anxiety, depression and social withdrawal were negative and significant. Also, the relationship of meaning in life with anxiety and depression was negative and significant. Mental health of the nurses can be predicted by meaning in life, religious well-being and existential well-being.
