Survey of nurse's perspective about barriers to education of sexual activity in patients with myocardial infraction

Introduction
Sexual education is one of the basic needs of patients with heart attack. Given the importance of the role of nurses in educating patients, now there are many obstacles in providing patient with education, particularly sexual education in myocardial infarction patients, by nurses that is necessary to be dealt with. So, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the barriers to training sexual activity to heart attack patients by nurses in Yazd province hospitals.
Materials And Methods
This study is cross-sectional study carried out on 100 CCU and cardiac nurses, whom were selected by cluster sampling, in selected hospitals in Yazd city in. Data collection tools included three questionnaires of demographic, of general obstacles and of specific obstacles to sexual activity education to heart attack patients. Tool validity was calculated through content and face validity and tool reliability was calculated through internal consistency. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 20 and descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage and independent T and ANOVA tests.
Results
In this study, 52 percent were female and the rest were male. Moreover, the majority of people (61%) were in the age group of 34-24 years old. The results of this study showed that in general aspect, the terms "additional procedures" with 87% and " nurses’ lack of motivation for training " with 86%, and also in specialized aspect, the terms " patients’ modesty and shyness" with 85% and "the difficulty discussing sexual issues for nurses " with 84% percent were the highest barrier sexual activity training to heart attack patients, respectively. The average rating of the general barriers and general and specific dimensions were significantly higher in younger nurses and those who were, single, worked in the heart section, had a bachelor's degree, as well as those with low experience low (p <0/05).
Conclusions
With respect to the research findings and mentioned obstacles, it is recommended that the related authorities look for ways to increase the motivation in nurses (financial 0 non-financial), way to take into account the adjustment law in education, and way to take into account the nurse in charge of education to remove barriers.
