Formation Time Concept in Secondary School's Students

Abstract:
In order to examine the process of formation time concept, a sample included 1020 boy and girl students (Grade 1 to 3) was randomly selected from secondary schools in Tehran. Based on Piaget theory, All children were assessed by the task of displacement of liquid and duration. The results of the present study revealed that as children became older, their ability of judgment about duration and its succession gradually increased. These findings also indicated that the developmental sequence of acquisition of time concepts across Iranian children was similar to those children in other cultures nevertheless, the acquisition of these concepts more specifically, duration, in Iranian students were accompanied with retardation. In fact, not only the concept of succession was not achieved till the third grade but also in the acquisition of the concept of duration, a little developmental trend was observed. Finally, regarding students sex, no significant differences were seen between boys and girls in the stages of formation time concept (duration and succession).
