Memory enhancement in induced diabetic rats fed with the organic chromium enriched in unicellular yeasts

Diabetic patients normally show reduction in the memory which are caused by impaired glucose metabolism. It is believed that biological chromium supplements may reduce insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes that improves memory of patients. Organic chromium can be produced and enriched in yeast cells. According to some studies iron not only plays an important role in Myelin and neurotransmitter production but also have some effects on organic chrome absorbance in body. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of iron and chromium enriched yeast on memory of induced diabetic rats. In this study, the diabetes induced in 49 adult male Wistar rats in the weight range 200 ± 30 gr with an intra-peritoneal injection of streptozotocin (50 mg/kg). Organic Chrome was created by enriching of chromium in yeast cells which subsequently was fed in various doses to the Rates by dissolving a certain amounts in the food of rats. The experiments were assigned to 4 weeks in which at the end of experiments the weight of the mice compared to control groups. Memory enhancement test was provided using eight-arm radial Maze. The results based on the weight and memory test on samples revealed that the combination of the biological chromium and iron in the treatment of diabetes can improve memory diabetic mice under the effective control of diabetes treatments as compared to (0/05>p).
