Abstract:

This study aimed to examine the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and self-esteem among high school students in Damghan. The population of this descriptive correlational research comprised all senior high school students aged 14 to 18 years old in 2014-2015 academic year. For the purpose of sampling, random cluster sampling method was used and 150 students (75 girls and 75 boys) were selected. The instrumentation included the short form of Young Schema Questionnaire and Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory. The collected data were analyzed through Spearman correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The findings demonstrated that there was a negative relationship between early maladaptive schemas and selfesteem and the presence of early maladaptive schemas resulted in reduced selfesteem among adolescents.
