The Effect of Neurofeedback on Mathematical Calculation Ability in Primary School Students with Dyscalculia

The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of neurofeedback training on increasing of Arithmetic abilities (numerical calculation and numerical memory) in the students with dyscalculia. It was a semiexperimental design using pre-test and post-test for both the experimental and control groups. The subjects were 2 students with mathematical learning disability from 10 to 12 year-old who were selected using the in access sampling method. They were randomly assigned in two matched groups. The subjects performed two subscales of Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), including Arithmetic and Digit Span (a memory test), as pre-test and post-test. Data was analyzed using analysis of covariance and multivariate analysis of variance. Neurofeedback training resulted in noticeable increase in mathematical calculation abilities (Arithmetic and Memory) of the experimental group in compare with the control group. Neurofeedback, as a supplemental intervention method, may be used to treat of mathematical learning disability disorder.
