Formulation of the Principles and Policies of the Entrance Gate of Iranian City influenced by Old Houses

Abstract:
Entering any spatial complex is properly done when the entering person would obtain a fast perception of general properties of the space, customs and other specifications of that space before entering. In the meantime, entrance of the house and the city are the most tangible spaces in which entry and exit take place. Preparing an entrance for each space (whether city or building), will become identified for its residents and can act as a platform for pleasant human experiences. Since the entrance of the city is the first point of exposure of the entering person and the first mental image and prejudices of him is formed on this basis, it is very important. Unfortunately, today many entrance spaces in the country are facing a sharp drop in the physical and functional quality, and rather than being a showcase for the city’s identity, have caused serious damages to the cities’ appearance and identity. The comparison of features of building and city entrance in the past represents the similarities of them. It seems that, the same objectives that have caused the building entrance space to be formed and evolved, have also contributed to the formation of city entrance space. In this study which is of fundamental and descriptive-analytical research method type, it has been tried to obtain the policies for the design and redesign of this forgotten space by studying the Iranian city entrance and the entrance of old houses and comparing them. The purpose of this study is to extract the policies that help the designers to have a correct definition of the role of entrance in spatial organization of the city instead of blindly imitating the physique and shape of the gate. Finally, all these policies are summarized and presented in the form of tables in order to reverse the process of urban decline and multidimensional prosperity of this part of the city so that it would lead to creating an space worthy of modern city and Iranian city.
