Survey of Prevalence and Severity of Suicidal Ideation in Women With Spouse Abuse Referred to Ahvaz Forensic Medicine Center in 2013

Spouse abuse is one of the reasons of committing suicide. By recognizing the women who have suicide ideations¡ a condition can be created for appropriate preventive interventions for preventing them from committing suicide.
This study was planned and conducted with the aim of studying prevalence and severity of suicide ideations in attended women suffered from spouse abuse in the forensic medicine organization of Ahvaz.
This descriptive–analytic cross-sectional study on 103 women who had complained of spouse abuse were referred to the Ahvaz forensic medicine center. Available for sampling and data collection included demographic¡ woman abuse scale and Beck scale for suicidal ideation (BSSI). The data was analyzed by SPSS software and t¡ ANOVA¡ Kruskal Wallis and Spearman correlation coefficients test.
49.52% of woman had suicidal ideation¡ 21.35% of woman had moderate suicidal ideation and 28.15% of them had serious suicidal ideation. Sexual abuse and suicidal ideation were significantly different. (P = 0.003). Also the old woman and his wife¡ age of marriage and his wife¡ age between woman and his wife¡ income¡ number of children¡ the perspective of woman’s economic status¡ educated woman and her wife and woman’s jobs significant difference were observed (P The suicide ideations in the women suffer from spouse abuse is so prevalent¡ therefore¡ a planned program is needed to screening and timely sending of these women to related specialists and having counseling sessions for improving their mental health.
