Studies of galvanic interaction of galena-grinding media in the mill and galena-pyrite in the flotation cell with the use of EDTA extraction technique

Author(s):
Abstract:
This study has been done to determine the galvanic interaction between five types of grinding media (mild steel, ductile, 10% chromium, 20% chromium, and ceramic media) and galena in situ of the mill, and galena and pyrite in the flotation cell. The amount of Iron oxidation species derived from galvanic current between galena-pyrite and the grinding medium corrosion measured by EDTA extraction. It was found that the amount of pyrite increased in a mixture of galena and pyrite, galvanic interaction between two minerals increased. The study of EDTA extraction for galvanic interaction between galena-grinding media showed the ceramic media has a significantly not galvanic interaction with galena and high chromium media because of a significantly weaker galvanic interaction with galena has minimum corrosion than mild steel medium that has maximum corrosion. Iron oxidation species from corrosion of grinding media measured EDTA extraction, that amount of media corrosion for all grinding media are mild steel > cast iron > 10% chromium > 20% chromium > ceramic media.
