CELAC; Opportunities and Challenges Ahead

Abstract:
The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, CELAC, is among the biggest Latin American unions in the region. This union, which includes the American countries except for the United States and Canada, has been created to create the vast grounds of political and economical cooperation in the region. CELAC has been considered by political analysts as an influential factor in political and international developments. Currently, 33 countries with a population of more than 573 million people and an area of more than 20 million kilometers are part of CELAC. The leaders of Latin American countries created CELAC as a practical solution, in line with the wishes of Simon Bolivar to create unity among Latin American Countries, and show resistance against power seeking and foreign interference in the area. The union aims to free Latin America from the solitude life of America, create a united voice in the international arena, and create a more just global human rights situation. The aim of this study is to examine the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the newly established union, CELAC, and to analyze its impacts on the international community.
