Investigating the Spatial Pattern of Iron Wood (ParrotiapersicaC.A.Mey) Trees in Chafroud Forests of GilanUsingRipley's K Function

Understanding the spatial distribution pattern of forest trees plays a significant role in
designing an appropriate management pattern for protecting and restoring forest biomasses.
Parrotiapersica is one of the indigenous species of the forests in the North of Iran which is
found in the plain and Mianband regions with other broadleaf species. In an attempt to
determine the spatial distribution pattern of these trees, to optimize the management of
forest biomasses, this study was carried out in the lowlands of Parrotiapersica habitats in
Chafroodregion of Gilan. A 1-hectare (100 to 100 m)piece of land in less intervened
biomasses was selected. The diameter at the height equal to breast and the geographical
coordinates of all trees which were thicker than 7.5 cm. were determined in the sample
land,usingdistance-azimuth method. Finally, the spatial distribution pattern of Parrotiapersicawas analyzed using Ripley’s K function. The results of this analysis revealed
a clump distribution pattern for Iron Wood trees which tends to become more clump with an increase in the distance.
