Food packaging by bio-polymers derived from plant proteins
Author(s):
Abstract:
There is a long time that synthetic polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene are used as packaging materials and have a market about 12 million tons per year. The main problem of synthetic packaging materials is the time- consuming of its decomposition process. On the other hand, The pollution of plastic packagings materials by food or biological materials and migration from packaging to food created other problems which decrease food safety and cause of flavor. These problems, are the reasone of developing biodegradable packaging materials such as edible films made from polysaccharides and proteins. In this review paper, several proteins biopolymers derived from plant has been analyzed separately, to gether of characteristics, production conditions, properties of produced film and their application in food packaging industry.
