A Study on Perspectives about Relation of Art and Morality

From beginning of philosophy to the present, different views are expressed about relation of artwork’s moral value and aesthetic value. Typology of perspectives about this issue is important in art and morality studies. This paper, using the library collection and analysis of content, analyzes and classifies perspectives about relation of art and morality. The results of this study show that we can classify perspectives in three groups: autonomism, immoralism and moralism. Each of these groups has radical and moderate subgroups. The most appropriate classification is the classification on the basis of aesthetic relationship. Study on perspectives show that moderate views are more acceptable than others. Among moderate views, moderate moralism is the most acceptable view. Also, Gaut’s view (ethicism) is the most acceptable moderate moralist view.
