The trend of malaria in Hajiabad County, Hormozgan Province, 2001 - 2014

Malaria is still one of the most important diseases in the word. Almost 350 million of people are at risk of being infected by malaria. Iran is one of the countries that is in elimination phase of malaria eradication process at now. Hormozgan is a province in the south of Iran with high malaria transmission rate. This study focuses on the epidemiology of malaria in Hajiabad, Hormozgan province in 2001-2014.
This is a descriptive-cross sectional study which investigates the situation of malaria disease in past years based on available data. After collection from past records, data were analyzed by SPSS ver. 19 software
In the past 14 years 569 cases of malaria reported from Hajiabad. 305 of cases were male. Plasmodium vivax was the highest prevalent parasite (99%). 94% of transmissions were indigenous. 90% of cases of malaria were Iranian. The majority of cases (62.8%) were >15 years old. The highest prevalence of malaria was observed in 2005 during July and August with 264 patients.
Malaria disease in Hajiabad has almost been eliminated indicating the success of eradication process. Necessary plans should be conducted in the Hormozgan provice to prevent the reoccurrence of malaria in this city.
