The effectiveness of group therapy based on choice theory in increasing quality of life in type II diabetes patients

Abstract:
Many therapies have been proposed for coping with bio-psycho-social effects of diabetes that have had positive results. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of group therapy based on choice theory on increasing quality of life among the type 11 diabetic patients. Population of this study was all type 2 diabetic patients who were referred to Shahid Qodsi health center in the first six month of the year 1390. The sample was 40 patients who were selected and assigned randomly to experiment and control group (20 patients for each group). The method of present study was semiexperimental with pretest ,post-test and control group. The intervention was two-hour group sessions that conducted for 8 weeks. The WHO Quality of Life Questionnaire was used for assessment of quality of life. For analyzing data, covariance analysis was conducted. Results showed that there were significant differences in physical, social and total quality of life scores between experimental and control group and there were no differences in mental an environment quality between two groups. Based on the findings of this research ,using group therapy based on choice theory is effective in increasing quality of life in type II diabetes patients.
