Application of the structural analysis of narration: narrative analysis of the play " The Visit of the old lady" by Friedrich Durrenmatt according to Roland Barthes point of view

The play “The Visit of the old lady” written by Friedrich Durrenmatt in 1955 has been recognized as his masterpiece by many literary critics. This play brought him international fame. The present article analyses the narrative structure of this play especially according to Roland Barthes literary criticism approach and at the same time it tries to reveal the meanings and denotations through studying the functions and actions in the underlying layers of the play as a narrative. This is what Roland Barthes is after in the analysis of narratives. In fact what are revealed after analyzing this narrative are opportunism and profiteeringand debility of the will of society. People who kill ethics simply for the profit and act opposite to what they say.
