An investigation of the role of family supports in providing social support for addicted teens in Hormozgan Province

Nowadays, promotion of drugs seems to be one of the serious issues among teenagers who have shown tendency toward industrial drugs due to their availability and accessibility. The present study intends to predict the role of family supports in providing social support for teen addicts in Hormozgan province. This study is descriptive; the population consists of all teenagers between the ages of 15 to 20 who are addicted to one type of drugs and a sample of 345 available people was selected among the addicted teens. The data was collected through Bamerind’s parenting approaches questionnaire and Zimmet et al. (1998) social support questionnaire, and then analyzed using descriptive and inferential tests of Kolmogorov Smirnov and Pierson correlation coefficient and multivariable regression through SPSS 20. According to the results of synchronic regression, authoritative family support predicts social support perception and positively predicts any variation in variance in social support perception (Beta=0/ 413 & p0/05). According to adjusted R2 rate, 27/3 percent of variations of variance in social support perception are explained by authoritatively and inconsiderately family support. Therefore, it might be concluded that the appropriate style of family support is related to social support perception and incorrect styles like despotic one prevents the teen addicts from receiving support from the society when they need it.
