Evaluation of Grain Yield of Promising Hull Less Barley Lines on Farm Conditions in West Azerbaijan Province

Evaluation of promising lines on farm conditions is one of the most important processes of releasing a new cultivar. This study was conducted in two locations of west Azerbaijan province (Naghadeh and Urmiyeh) in 2009-2010 with seven genotypes (six promising lines and one cultivar as check). Genotypes including: EHBYT-C83-7, EHBYT-C83-16, EHBYT-C85-2, EHBYT-C85-4, EHBYT-C85-8, UH-12 and Soltan with Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications in two locations. Analysis of variance showed significant differences among lines (probability level of 1%) for grain yield, 1000 kernel weight, plant height, length of peduncle, length of spike, number of grain per spike and biological yield. Means comparison for grain yield showed EHBYT-C83-16, EHBYT-C83-7 and EHBYT-C85-2 the highest ones with 6532, 7274 and 6642 Kg/ha respectively. Grain yield for Soltan cultivar was 5334 Kg/ha. Within group variation showed lines of EHBYT-C85-2 and EHBYT-C85-8 as the most grain yield stability lines. Cluster analysis grouping genotypes in 2 groups. EHBYT-C83-16 with the high grain yield, TKW, plant high, high spike length grouping in a single odd cluster, and other 6 genotypes inserted in the other cluster. Finally, two lines of EHBYT-C83-16 and EHBYT-C85-2 have been evaluated as the best lines in order to introduce as a new release cultivars.
