An evaluation of supported curriculum: How can facilitate the process of learning and instruction in undergraduate education?

Abstract:
Although supported curriculum as one type of curriculum plays key role in improving learning and instruction quality, it has not examined comprehensively in literature of higher education curriculum. The present study intends to introduce conceptual framework for evaluating supported curriculum of undergraduate education. Accordingly, a qualitative descriptive approach, using semi-structured interviews was used. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 undergraduate students, 17 faculty members form Tehran Universities and 2 experts of planning bureau of Iranian higher education. Data were analyzed using open, axial, selecting coding. Result showed that conceptual framework of the supported curriculum evaluation involves 3 core components of selection of human forces; instructional environment; and a planning for the informal learning opportunities and 12 sub components of selection of qualified teacher, selection of qualified student; Pupil-teacher ratio; physical space of instruction; the location of instructional space; the facilities of instructional environment; quick access to learning resources; a plan for in-service education; a plan to create scientific groups. The findings of this conceptual framework can be used as appropriate instrument for evaluating of supported curriculum of various academic discipline.
