Reflection of the problems of southern Iran and the Persian Gulf ports on the works, parliamentary life and policy of Ahmad Faramarzi (1888-1962)

Abstract:
The elite of every society is a mirror of the social structure in which it is grown. Therefore, the study of life, thoughts and concerns of the elite in the field of social history studies is required. This article aims to present and analyze the thoughts and works of Ahmad Faramarzi, one of the administrative and scientific elite of the first Pahlavi era, as well as an imminent figure of science and a parliament member during the reign of Mohammad Reza Shah. Faramarzi was the director of Taghaddom magazine during the first Pahlavi monarchy and director of Khavar newspaper in its second period. In addition, he was the deputy of Bushehr in the National Parliament in the XV, XVII and XVIII legislative periods and author of numerous works about the Persian Gulf. The works of Faramarzi, prior to completion of this study, were not analyzed properly as they should have. This article by the analytical – descriptive method, with a critical look at Faramarzi’s life, tries to answer a question: "Ahmad Faramarzi in his political, parliamentary, scientific and editorial life tried to reach which goals? His concerns in which manner have influenced his character? It is well known that the environment in which he grew up has given him some traits of nationalism, or a kind of freedom and independence from colonialism, imperialism or any kind of political reaction. Thus once arrived in Tehran and entered in administrative system, he began using his pen to reflect problems of his home town (south of Iran and the Persian Gulf), for finding some solutions. The southern part of Iran was treated by the central government with indifference and negligence: Indeed, this was a problem that was not in line with Iran's territorial integrity and its independence. The ultimate goal of Faramarzi was the description of the status quo of the Persian Gulf: He aimed to find a solution to improve the situation of ports and the Persian Gulf islands, with the hope of being able to address the full attention of the central government to that region which, despite its numerous political and economic interests for the Persia, had been neglected and ignored.
