Studying and criticizing the quantity of consonants, vowels and syllables in Persian prosody and giving some suggestions
Author(s):
Abstract:
One of the most important achievements of modern prosody is the use of phonetic syllables instead of the sabab, vatad and fasele. Syllable is made up of two smaller phonetic units: Consonant and vowel and based on the number of these units and their combination is divided into different types.
By a careful division of syllables and studying their quantity in common prosody new findings can be achieved that are sometimes in contrast with previous findings. The use of mathematical rules that are the foundation of prosody proves the authenticity of the new findings.
. In this research, at first, the related authentic references have been studied and apparently certain vocable principles have been extracted and compared based on mathematical rules. In this research in addition to proving some contrasts, the accurate division of syllables and their precise quantity has been specified and the following questions have been logically answered:1) Do consonants like vowels have extension? If they have, to what extent is it?And is the extension of consonants like vowels different?
2) Does the assumption of equality of the quantity of a long syllable with the quantity of two short syllables is right?
3) Does the quantity of an extensive syllable is equal with the quantity of a long syllable and a short syllable?
