Body image and its social acceptance; an experimental study among female students of Payam Noor University, Tehran

Nowadays body is a context for the rise of identity on the one hand, and it is a mediator for the regulation of relations and establishment of social interaction on the other hand. Therefore their image of body and its social acceptance and also their perception of ideal body, play an important role in how they exposed to their bodies. This study seeks to describe and analyze the relationship between flexibility of body image and its social acceptance. The statistical population of this survey is female students of Payam Noor University in Tehran. A sample size of 415 persons were selected using proportional stratified sampling. The results show significant correlations between the three dimensions of social acceptance of body (Included: general , peer groups and organizational) and the body image. The degree of correlation in the organizational dimension is stronger than the other two dimensions. Also the results show a significant relationship between age, educational level and employment status with body image. According to the findings of this study, these variables did not have a significant relationship with the social acceptance of body.
