Social Support and Crime;The Comparative Study of Criminal and Non-Criminal Youth in Ilam

Abstract:
This article is a study about investigation of relationship between social support and youth's crime. The comparison of viewpoints and different definitions of social support (Ratous, Kessler and Heller) and crime (Hirschi's social control and strain's Agnew) has been performed in order to examinie and compare enjoyment level of criminal and non-criminal of Ilam city youth from social support. In this research, the social support has been investigated in the three dimensions of sentimental, material and informational support among 520 samples composed of 147 criminal persons and 373 non-criminal persons in Ilam city. The descriptive results of the study indicated that enjoyment level of non-criminal youth of all dimensions of social support is greater rather than criminal youth. The inferential results have approved the significance of these differences too. Furthermore, the analysis of data by logistic regression indicated that theoretical construct of social support has high distinction ability for separation of non-criminal and criminal individuals. In other words, with increasing of social support the probability of crime's perpetration wiu decrease.
