Attitude of nurses to end-life care in social security hospitals in Golestan province

Logical attitudes of nurses toward death could be influential in taking care of dying patients and their families. Hence, the present study was conducted with the aim of evaluating nurses’ attitude toward taking care for dying patients in Social security hospitals of Golestan province in 2014.
This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted on 106 employed nurses in social security hospitals of Golestan Province using Census Method among eligible individuals for the study. Data were collected by the standard attitudes-toward-death questionnaire (FATCOD) and were analyzed by statistical software SPSS 16 using descriptive statistics (frequency, mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (ANOVA and independent t).
The results showed that the level of attitude towards death in nurses with mean and standard deviation of (108/00 ± 9/00) was higher than average (p The results of the present study put an emphasis on the necessity of nurses’ appropriate attitude towards taking care of a dying patient. Taking advantage of educational methods to take care of the dying patient including palliative and non-traumatic cares, giving spiritual cares to such patients and their families and close friends is suitable.
