Effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing on Depression and Hope on Dialysis Patients in Hajar Hospital of Shahrekord in 2013

Depression is the most common psychological disorder among dialysis patients which could endanger individual's health conditions and diseases. The present study was aimed to examine effectiveness of motivational interviewing on depression and hope on dialysis patients.
This study was quasi-experimental research by using pre-test and post-test with control group. The population consisted of all dialysis patients who referred Hajar Hospital of Shahrekord in summer of 2013. By using convenience sampling method, 30 patients were selected and randomly were divided into two experimental groups and one control group. The experimental group received 5 sessions of motivational interviewing weekly while control group received no intervention. Data were collected by Beck Depression Inventory and Snyder Hope Scale. Data was analyzed through multivariate analysis of covariance with SPSS21 software.
The results showed significant increasing in subscale of Corridor of Hope Scale and significant decreasing in depression score among experimental group (p Regarding effectiveness of motivational interviewing on depression and hope of dialysis patients and its cost-effectiveness and short-term, it is recommended that this method can be used to improve the mental health of dialysis patients.
