Palaeoecology and Biostratigraphy Asmari Formation in Kooh-Siah anticline (north of Dehdasht) and correlation with the other parts of Zagros basin

In this research biostratigraphy and paleoecology of the Asmari Formation in Kooh-Siah anticline (north of Dehdasht) has been studied. The thickness of the Asmari Formation in this section is 214.1m and consists of thick, medium and thin bedded limestones. This study led to identification 23 genera and 20 species of benthic foraminifera. Based on the distribution of foraminifera 3 assemblage zones with ages upper Chattian, Aquitanian and Burdigalian were recognized. Faunal associations indicate that the Asmri Formation in the study area was deposited under tropical and oligotrophic conditions that it is accordance with photozoanassociation. The zooaxanthellate corals were not able to build three-dimensional wave-resistant structures up to sea level, therefore, heterozoan association were developed. Faunal association shows that the Asmari Formation was deposited in water with variety of salinity (normal to hyper-saline conditions).
