Marriage squeeze in Iran

Marriage squeeze or imbalance between the number of men and women in marriageable ages as a result of changes in the age structure of the population of Iran has been discussed in previous studies. The aim of this study is to update the information with regard to marriage squeeze according to the most recent census in 2011. In order to obtain a more precise analysis of marriage squeeze, the sex ratios as well such indicators of availability rate and comparative odds ratios are utilized. The results show the following groups face marriage squeeze. (1) among those aged 20-24 years old: women, except urban women with high school or pre-university education; (2) among those aged 25-29 years old: all women and urban men with high school or pre-university education; (3) among those aged 30-34 years old: all women. Overall, women face a more sever marriage squeeze than men.
