The Qur an in the Process of the Formation of Islamic Ummah

Scripture, Poetry and the Making of a Community (New York: OUP, 2014) is reflecting Angelika Neuwirth’s original thoughts for the interested readers. This book is a compact of the Quranic studies in the West, and probably is the only book which can be claimed to replace Noldeke’s Qur’an in this area. It includes the first English translation of Angelika Neurwith’s fourteen German articles which have been published between 1990 and 2012. These articles present various ideas and their publication provide an opportunity to reflect upon Neuwirth’s methods, interpreting principles, and basic results. The following article is the translation of Don Stewart’s review on this book which was published in The Quranic Studies in 2016. Stewart has tried to introduce the book and talk about its content.
