Description of Manager's succession planning model in Alavi state according to Nahj al-Balagha

Succession planning and having a secure pool of talented and competent managers has been an important concern of organizations. So the succession planning model of managers in Imam Ali state has been developed by meritocracy approach in this research. Thus the basic variables of this research are succession planning process and competency model of managers in Alavi state. To perform this research, qualitative approach via content analysis has been used in which after literature review and developing theoretical framework, the content of holy Nahj al-Balagha including sermons, letters and sayings especially in Imam's governing period was analyzed. The results show that Imam Ali has used a comprehensive and polygonal system which includes six steps of preparation, competency definition, competent-recognition, competent-development, competent-appointment and evaluation to install a competency-based succession planning and based on this result some suggestions were offered to establish a more effective process in Iranian public organizations.
