Introducing Flora, Life From, and Geographical Distribution of Plants in Garakan Mountain Region in Ashtian (Markazi Province)

Garakan Mountain region with 700 hectares is located in the northwest of Ashtian in Markazi Province. The altitude of the area ranges from 2500 to 3150 meters. The amount of the annual precipitation of the region is 276 mm and the mean annual temperature is 13 ºC. The aim of this research was identifying the plant species, introducing the flora, and determining the life forms and geographical distribution of the species in the region. For this purpose, plant samples were collected from the area during growing season in 1389. The biological spectrum of the area was plotted by means of the life form results. The position of the area within Iran’s phytogeographical classification was determined by means of the geographical distribution data. The 216 species identified in the region belong to 40 families and 139 genera. The highest number of species belonged to Asteraceae (34 species), Papilionaceae (29species) Geramineae (20 species), Lamiaceae (16 species), and Apiaceae and Liliaceae (each with 14 species). Hemicryptophytes, with 106 species (49%), comprised the most frequent life form in the region. The geographical distribution of 170 species (78.7%) belongs to Irano-Turanian region.
