The study of mucous cells in Cyprinus carpio reactions to physical and chemical factors

Abstract:
This study investigates the mucous cells position in fish epidermis and specifically in the part of epidermis that covers fish scales as well as their changes during the time after the fish death it, also, discusses their behavior toward external (outsider) factors such as heat and mineral/organic antioxidants (Sodium Bisulfide and Hydrokinon). The question this study tried to answer was whether or not it was possible to use such cells as the indicator and index of the fish death time and perhaps, the physical and chemical conditions in which the fish has died. The Cyprinus Carpio was used as the subject of this study. Different methods with different indicators in cytochemistry such as PAS, Fuschin Aldehyde, Karmin and blue methylin were used. Among the indicators, the most fruitful result was shown by Fuschin Aldehyde with Bouin Fixator. The findings of the study indicated that the method of investigating mucous cells in fish epidermis could be used as an indicator to determine the fish death time in such a way that an increase in the temperature and decrease in the oxygen of unmoving water would accelerate the speed of such cells death. The last cells were found dead after about 130 hours in epidermis and in fresh water stream with a temperature between 17 and 18 degree centigrade. In 25 degree centigrade, the death speed doubled. Not only did the antioxidant injection have any effect on increasing the cells resisting power, but it decreased it severely to the effect that there were no mucous cells after 90 hours. Such effect can emanate from severe changes in the PH of the body liquid and interference in biological reactions of the fish body.
