Stylistics of the Handwritten Manuscript “Dastgiri Rules

“Dastgiri Rules”, is a valuable handwritten work in the field of Persian syntax and rhetoric that can be turn into a precious source of Persian language and literature provided that it is edited scientifically and exactly. The work is related to the 13th century of hijrah and the early Qajar period written with the purpose of instructing the syntax of Persian language to the non-Persian speakers of the India Subcontinent by Moulana Gholam Dastgir. Besides the syntax rules, The manuscript contains rhetoric, and such topics as simple elements of Persian alphabet, inversion and permutation, a collection of proverbs and poems some from the unknown poets, Qur’anic verses, religious traditions, etc. The sound taste and literary talent of the author has made the prose style of the book remarkable and impressive; using literal and spiritual literary elements, making reference to a large number of religious traditions, verses, and poems, phrases of different sciences, and the variety of topics are some features of the book that prompted us to study and analyze the prose style of the book.
