Investigation of Central Library and Documentation Center of Tehran University user's rate of usage of Sheet List and Computer List

The present research aims to have a comparative investigation of central library and documentation center of Tehran University users’ amount of usage of sheet list and computer list.
The present research is a descriptive survey. All users of central library and Documentation Center of Tehran University including students, clerks, and free members are study population. There were 58499 users of which 382 persons were determined using Morgan’s table through simple Random Sampling as sample size. Researcher designed a questionnaire to gather data, its validity has been determined through experts’ views and its reliability through calculation of Cronbach’s Alpha 0.838; it indicates the questionnaire’s proper reliability. Descriptive statistics has been used to categorize data and Inferential statistics to compare findings and hypothesis testing for data analysis. SPSS version 18 and Excel spreadsheet have been analysis tools.
Findings: These research findings have shown that central library and documentation center of Tehran University users used sheet list at a very low level (average of 1.77); on the contrary, average of 4.38 has shown that users used computer list to find sources at a very high level. Among elements affecting users’ usage of sheet list, special cases such as power outages and deterioration of electronic systems with average of 2.68 lower than intermediate level, have had the highest influence on users’ usage of sheet list.
In contrast, elements such as flexibility of presentation and information screening, elimination and satisfaction of emergent needs and users’ familiarity and skill in using computer have had the highest influence on their usage of computer list. This research’s hypothesis claiming the higher usage of users from computer list of central library and documentation center of Tehran University, in comparison with sheet list, has been confirmed and turned true.
