Non-navigational uses of international watercourses in the lighte of sustainable development

One of the most important issues of international environmental law in recent years is non-navigational uses of international watercourses especially its environmental protection. In fact, management and environmental protection of international watercourses is one of the most important international issues in regional and global scope. In this perspective, the development of many international regulations and conventions shows the tendency of the international community to find a fundamental solution to problems related to water resources, international watercourses and its environmental protection. It is clear that the international efforts to ratify several conventions in this regard, such as the rules of the Helsinki 1966 Helsinki Convention on the protection and utilization of international lakes 1992 and United Nations Convention on the Law of the Non-Navigational Uses of International Watercourses New York 1997 demonstrate international solidarity to solve international watercourses problems. In this study, we have tried to analyze the rules on this part of international law while analyzing the sustainable development position in international watercourses law.
